Happy New Year!

Oh em gee you guys! It's officially a NEW YEAR! In this case, it's now 2011, which means that we're nearing teenage-tantrum-time - my favourite sort of time. Hooray!

But yeah - it's a Saturday so this isn't a normal update, I just wanted to have something up for the first day of the New Year.

I've had a brilliant time these last few weeks. I got lots of drawing done, I saw my friends, ate so much unhealthy food and slept a lot. But it's back to the real world next week which will be a shock to the system. I hope you lot had a lovely time too! Did I miss anything exciting? Tell me everything!

As for what 2011 has in store, well, I have a lot of plans... My friend is going to redo my website and another friend is going to help set up and run an online shop for me - although I don't know when either of those will happen. As soon as possible?

I think that every print comic I make now will come under the People I Know banner - which means I'll need to repackage my mini comics and the like. That sounds quite dull doesn't it?

There's probably other stuff too but I need to enjoy my last few days of daytime television and drawing. But I'll be back to update properly on Monday! HOORAY!

Happy New Year (again)!

Review of 2010: Adventures

It's Thursday and it's another instalment in my Review of 2010. This one gets a special mention since I'm typing it on my phone instead of the computer. This is because I went to another Christmas Party and I need to save time! That is two Christmas Parties so far and there is another one on Friday! Anyone might think it's Christmas or something! How will I cope?! Also, typing on the phone is a bit of a pain.

Anyways. Yeah. I've already harped on about how lovely it has been to make comic-making friends and this is sort of related. Because in 2010, I went on a good few adventures - often with those new comic-making pals.

The drawing is about that time my pals and I went to Mount Superfun and saw a lumpy deer. That was great fun! But I went to other places too - notably Caption in Oxford, an exciting work thing in Edinburgh and Birmingham Zine Festival in... well... Birmingham, obviously? There's Thought Bubble too but that still needs a proper entry.

So yes - for someone that rarely ventures out, this year was great for adventures. I saw new places, got creeped out by new things and forgot to take photos of new buildings. I really hope I can do a bit more travelling in 2011 - even if it's within Great Britain. And I wouldn't mind visiting Canada again or California or anywhere you suggest.

I could probably write more but typing on the train is annoying and pretty weird. The guy next to me is sleeping and his head is gravitating to the lady opposite him's lap. I don't think she approves. Awkward.

Beyonce!

Goodness me! I am shattered! This weekend was my first ever Thought Bubble - and I've just got home. It was an amazingly fun and intense weekend of talking, drawing, dancing and even a bit of caking.

Like with MCM, I'll write up some sort of epic blog about the whole thing but I really need to get some sleep now. Sorry. Although I suspect you'll survive. Oh - and here is a drawing about Beyonce and he alter ego, Sasha Fierce. Not sure who Sasha Fierce is? Watch this handy video:

And don't forget that Jessica Fletcher Week 2010 is nearing! I've got some brilliant submissions and you should send one along too! Don't be shy!

On a final note - some of my comics were reviewed over on Hand Drawn Awesome. I'm terrified of people saying mean things about my comics so obviously I was heartbroken that it begins with the words "I hate Timothy Winchester..." but it gets better. To be fair, it couldn't get any worse after that - but it all works out fine in the end. Phew. Thanks to Christian for the kind words. And thanks to everyone that came to visit me at Thought Bubble. I had an amazing time and I hope you did too...

Captain Planet!

Today is Friday! I have uploaded a drawing every day this week! Well done me! HOORAY!

But you know what's even more exciting than that? Well... I suspect that this may be the 100th drawing I've uploaded onto my website! Wheeeeeeeeee!

So yes. Thank you very much for reading my blog or looking at my drawings and everything. I really appreciaite it and promise to get better!

MCM Expo: May 2010 - A Write Up!

Hello

It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper post or a proper drawing. I’d apologise but I have been making cartoons and that counts for something, right? I’m not going to link to them here since they are just a few posts down – go find them yourself.

Anyways! A few weeks ago was the MCM Expo at the Excel Centre. This was my second time having a stall there and it was just as amazing and intense as my first. Seriously – it’s just incredible.

So, unlike last year, I had pretty much done everything in advance – no more picking up packages 12 hours before the event. The main difference this time was that Lizz Lunney and I were running the Dino-Saw-Us Sticker Game which we’d tried out at the Thing 2010. It probably doesn’t sound like much, but I spent more time and energy pushing the Dino-Saw-Us passports than I did with my own stuff…and I’m really glad I did. It seemed to go down really well with the visitors and I was really pleased with the number of people that swung by to show me their completed passports. The only downside: I killed my voice. Boo hoo.

So yes. Saturday was the first day. I was dressed as 1960s Robin (Lizz was 1960s Batman) in an attempt to blend in. I don’t know if it worked but people came to visit my table. I felt quite uncomfortable when people just took a picture…but I feel like that even when I’m wearing normal clothes so *shrugs*

My table was in between Howard and Lizz – who was sharing with Paperlillies and Wirrow. It was nice to be able to leave the table in safe hands and I hope they didn’t mind sitting next to me. I had cake and juice so that should have helped.

One of the weirdest things from MCM Expo was the Scott Pilgrim posters hanging up. As you may or may not know – I’m a *massive* Scott Pilgrim fan so I took a photo and put it on Twitter. Someone asked for the other five posters which I snapped on my pissy iPhone camera and uploaded. Next up, Edgar Wright retweets a link to the photos (via someone’s Flickr) and my rubbish photos are popping up all over the Internet. Look! They even made it onto Empire! Hahahahahahahahaha…..Talk about weirding me out.

I had some hideous commuting experiences both to and from the Excel Centre which I won’t talk about. Except that I got one of the trains with Philippa and that was super fun. Oh! And I met some lovely new people. The zombie guys behind me were nice and there was the man with the beard and camera! And Mister Thought Bubble. In fact, it’s looking like I’ll be selling stuff at Thought Bubble this year. Exciting!

Oh! And Special mention to Izzie who was the ONLY PERSON TO DO THAT DANCE ROUTINE. I mean, I spent ages devising a brilliant dance routine and only one person did it. Boo hoo hoo. I’ll never be a superstar choreographer at this rate. Oh – and Sam and Emma came to visit. Good work you two!

Sunday was slightly quieter which is just as well since I was shattered. I sold a fair few cuddly owls and tiny comics. I got through all my stickers for Dino-Saw-Us and we gave out all the passports...so all in all, it was a complete success. I even did a bit of socialising. Go me!

In conclusion: thanks to everyone for came to talk to me and buy stuff. Send me an email if you…um…something? Or whatever? Roll on next MCM Expo! HOORAY!

Friday = Funday

Sorry for the lack of blogs - it was MCM Expo at the weekend and it was super intense. I will totally write up my review of the whole thing though...but first, I need to write about my exciting adventure to Mount Super Fun!

I went to Mount Super Fun with two friends...but I don't like talking about people on the Internet because it seems odd. So, for the purposes of this blog, they shall be renamed Troy and Sassini. I made us meet up super early to catch the train

Once we'd paid to get into Mount Super Fun (we got there before the doors opened and were totally the first people there - except for the wiggly dog) there was a love machine. The lowest rating was "POOR FISH - TRY AGAIN." I was too scared to try it but I did try a machine later (why did they have so many?!) that told me I was "UNCONTROLLABLE"

There was also a wizard game where you shook hands with the wizard and he would tell you about...you? I didn't want to shake hands with a wizard but Troy did. Here is a picture:

An important thing to know about Mount Super Fun is that it has two exciting parts to explore - more if you're feeling generous. Firstly, there is a castle-type fort-thing. There were some bambi-deer which were cute until they got close up and one of them had a haunted lumpy dangly-thing attached to it which may have been trying to attach itself to us. I was a total coward and ran away - swiftly followed by Troy and Sassini. We hid in a tower which was smart since deer can't cope with stairs. In your face deer!

As well as the castle-part, there is a toy museum...which is where things get extra fun. I mean - TOY MUSEUM!!! To get to that part of Mount Super Fun, you need to walk up a hill...but this hill is full of DINOSAURS. Oh - and a talking tree - but that doesn't really count since the tree didn't talk to us on the way up. Sassini tried it on with a shark - but that all ended up in tears.

Speaking of tears - some of the toys were amazing. There was a Boudoir Doll and a doll with three faces and a giant ET and a bunch of coin-operated machines that put on little shows for you and even a Boy George waxwork! OMG! They also had waxworks of the Beatles but I thought the Boy George one was much better.

Sassini put on a mini puppet show for us which consisted of various puppets popping up to say "Hello! [name of puppet] here" and then disappearing. It was very post-post modern in my opinion. Also, it was ace.

Then we had a picnic under the catapult and it was very sunny. The goats and lumpy deer didn't bother us...possibly because they were scared of the catapult - who can say? We then went for a walk in the village, found out that there wasn't much else to do and returned to London. There, we went to the park and sang songs around the campfire... well...no, we just went to the park and then went our separate ways.

So yeah - I had a lovely Friday. Thanks to Troy and Sassini for looking after me and going along with my time fascism. Next up, I need to write all about MCM Expo...

MCM Expo

I was meant to post this on Thursday but I packed my suitcase instead and then I spent Friday running away from lumpy deer and seeing dinosaurs. Really, today deserves its own blog...which will have to wait.

This weekend is the MCM Expo where I've got a table at the Comics Village. Come along and say hello. Actually - here is that dance routine I created for it:

If you come along to my table and do the dance for me - I'll be over the moon. OR! You could just ask me for a demonstration and I'll (maybe) do it for you! Everyone is a winner!

Speaking of winners - there are some special guests at MCM this weekend  - Oliver (from Oliver) and Willow (from Willow)! Plus, Lizz and I are doing another game of Dino-Saw-Us - which you have to play.

Oh - but public transport in London appears to be a bit rubbish this weekend. HOORAY!

Ke$ha is wild (and gets a kitten)

I was saving this for an extra special day because it's one of those rare drawings that actually makes me laugh. Oh Ke$ha - I know you're wild and crazy...but you just need a hug, don't you? You poor girl. When was the last time someone gave you a hug and meant it - really meant it? It must be so difficult for you, trying to be wild and crazy all the time.

Anyways. Today is an extra special day for two reasons.

Reason 1 - Mister Computer returned from the Computer Hospital! He appears to be much better and I am typing on him right this minute! I need to spent a lot of time reorganising my files but still... hooray! Welcome back Mister Computer. I

Reason 2 - I've been really sad lately but I had some nice emails and I haven't cried - so that is another special reason in my book.

I need to sit down and start work on a new issue of People I Know - but I'll still be popping by to update drawings here. I'm sorry the last month has been so sporadic. I promise to try much harder at some point this year.

UK Web + Comix Thing 2010

Hello Hello!

Yesterday was the UK Web and Comix Thing - officially the third time I've had a stall there!

I packed a suitcase with all sorts of goodies - new comics, old comics, big and little owls, CDs, badge packs, cakes, pictures, bags of dinosaurs etc etc

The journey there was pretty nasty since one of the wheels on the super suitcase broke pretty much as soon as I left the house...except I didn't know - I just thought it was being annoyingly difficult to pull along. It was super noisey and super heavy. I think I deserve a medal for getting to the venue without crying. I didn't even cry when Mile End tube station refused to let anyone exit!

I found my stall and started setting up. Check it out! I think it looked pretty good - especially since I suck at setting things up. It helped that I didn't forget to pack anything. Plusm look how nice the letters turned out for the wall. So bright! I'll try not to lose them this time.

It was a pretty slow start since Lizz and I set about giving out the Dino-Saw-Us Passports and flyers. We even had blank stickers for anyone that didn't have any printed stickers! Good work us. Good work to everyone that participated!

After all this was done I got to stand behind my stall and talk to people - which is one of my favourite things about events. I met so many people! The Science Team from Hull! The Food Group! Mister Aeroplane! Professor Peckham! Mister Awkward! Postal Service Girl! Man who I Thought Was Someone Else! The list is endless! It got super busy in the afternoon so the whole day whizzed by. I didn't even have a chance to have a decent look around.

As with previous Things, as soon as 17:00 rolled around, everyone packed up super fast and hit the pub. I saw some friends (who had gotten there two hours earlier) and spoke to some comic people. Blah blah blah and then I went home.

Today was set aside for doing nothing but fun things! I went for pancakes and saw some friends and worked on some ideas for the new issue of People I Know. I wasn't going to even think about it until June but now I'm hoping I could maybe get it printed in time for MCM Expo... That would be exciting!

In conclusion - thanks to everyone who was nice to me at the Thing 2010. And don't forget to email over any photos of completed Passports! We'd love to see them!

Stay out of trouble

Lady Gaga versus the Brit Awards 2010

Lady Gaga went to the Brits this evening and she wore some clothes and then she won some awards and everybody clapped and said "well done Lady Gaga."

Here is a YouTube clip which will probably be taken down soon.

In other news - today was pretty amazing. My morning routine was FLAWLESS and I got to work early. I sent out something I'd worked on over the weekend and people liked it. Also - I had an interesting phone conversation about things. And I met up with a friend I haven't seen in a while and we had a great catch up and I ate a burger. My feet got wet but that's a small price to pay. Then I got home and found that an amazing person had sent me an amazing parcel from the West Coast of America. I've got lots of things to do with all the goodies she sent me. THANKS LKP! I'll write you a proper email when it's not bedtime.

Did someone say 'bedtime?'

*snore*

Harry Potter: Hermione's Revenge

Check. Me. Out. Three drawings in two days! Woo woo.
I had an exciting email today (which was probably sent to me by mistake) and I'm meant to be going to the cinema tomorrow with an amazing friend - so although I've been a bit sad lately, the future is looking like it could be interesting. HOORAY FOR THE FUTURE!

In other news, this is probably one of my favourite things I've drawn in a while. I like Hermione. She is my favourite character in the Potterverse. If someone upset me, I would totally set a bunch of magic birds on them. That would teach them.

I hope you like the drawing as much as I do...
