The Ballad of Barbara - page 20 + 21

The Ballad of Barbara is drawing to a close - I think there are only 25 pages or something. I've learnt lots and can't wait to put it into practice.

FUN FACT: The line "did a whoopsie" is my favourite line in the entire issue. It still makes me laugh and it perfectly sums up everything you need to know about Barbara.

Read the previous pages here!

IN OTHER NEWS: I think I'm coming down wih a cold since I appear to be creating enough snot to power a small country (if any small country is powered by snot). How grim. Still - I've had a really laid back day...because I am CLEARLY ill. Boo hoo.

IN OTHER OTHER NEWS: I made an animation for work ages ago and now I've put the song I made on my Tumblr. I hope you like it. Do you like it? Can we be friends now?

The Ballad of Barbara - page 18 + 19

Peepo! I'm totally back home! The last few days deserve their own blog post and their own drawings...but - -

IN A NUTSHELL: It was amazing and exhausting and intense and brilliant. I met a bunch of amazing people, I stayed out late, I went to places I've never been to before, I learnt some stuff and I'm feeling terribly inspired... I've got a lot to achieve in the next few months!

And here is the tag for the previous pages...

How are you?

Friday 27 August 2010

The Ballad of Barbara - page 15, 16 + 17

If you're reading this then HOORAY! I'm typing it on Wednesday and hoping the computer will upload it on Friday if I ask nicely. Tune in next week to see what happens next... in both the comic and my life!

Thursday 26 August 2010

The Ballad of Barbara - page 12, 13 + 14

So...I often type these out in the evening and ask the computer to upload them in the morning. But! I'm going to be elsewhere for the next few days so things might be odd.

To stop you from hating me, here are three new pages from The Ballad of Barbara! I'll ask the computer to do the same for Friday but I don't know what to do about my proper website. Either way, I hope you're enjoying the story. Things are starting to heat up now.

IN OTHER NEWS: I went to see the Scott Pilgrim movie and rather enjoyed it. I'll write a review or something?

So yeah...it's a mega early start tomorrow. I got a new tote bag, umbrella and sketchbook... PLUS! there will be socialising! With other people! Wish me luck!

Wednesday 25 August 2010

The Ballad of Barbara - page 10 + 11

What's that? You're starting to get involved with the story and the main character? Well, good. That's what I was hoping for.

FUN FACT: I drew this years ago but I remember being really really proud of how cute Barbara looked in the swimming pool and how funny I thought it was that she was scared of the water. I was so easily pleased/amused back then...

Tuesday 24 August 2010

The Ballad of Barbara - page 8 + 9

Ahoy there! Monday was one of those days where nothing is easy and everything goes wrong. I didn't enjoy it. Not one bit. I'm sorry if we spoke and I was mean or crying... I think I just woke up on the wrong side of bed. On the plus side, I...um...nope - no plus side.

However! Barbara the squid-girl is having a great time! What's going to happen next? Why, come back tomorrow! Or just ask me?

The Ballad of Barbara - page 6 + 7

Good Day! The weekend has been and gone...and what a funny one it was! I spent Saturday doing mundane things like cutting out shapes from felt and throwing things away. Sunday was spent at Comiket doing stuff for We Are Words + Pictures. Fun times! I spoke to lots of people with their drawings and I hope I was helpful.

This week is a bit of a weird one. I'm going away on Thursday for a sort-of-work-thing. It's a bit of a big deal so I'm nervous and excited. And I'm getting a train there! But it means that Thursday and Friday's posts might have to be picture-only...if they even happen - since I'll be away from my computer and I don't have a laptop.

BUT! As a reward, I'll upload TWO pages from The Ballad of Barbara for the rest of the week. I'm still working on some new stuff so there is still more fun stuff to come. So far there are babies and brooding heroes and Ke$ha and Lady Gaga and some knights!

More importantly, how are you?

The Ballad of Barbara - page 5

So...The first week of Project: Long Comic is over. It has been an interesting week. It's been a bit cringey to post old drawings but I think it holds up OK. My initial feeling is that it works better in print but maybe that's because this comic has a pretty slow start. If I was to do it again then I'd make sure that each page was a lot more jam-packed.

IN OTHER NEWS: I'll be helping out at an event! Can you believe it! It's in London and all about Hypercomics. I'll be drawing stuff and you could draw stuff. We could draw stuff together! Come along! All the information can be found here.

IN OTHER OTHER NEWS: I'm working on new covers for some of my mini comics with an eye of sending them off to shops. Maybe. I don't know. Probably not. But it means that it should be printed in time for MCM in October...or at least Thought Bubble in November. HOORAY!

Have a lovely weekend!

The Ballad of Barbara - page 4

Hello! The Balled of Barbara continues - it's page four now and she's got to school!

IN HINDSIGHT: Since this was my first proper foray into computer-aided drawing (using the Fill button), I was excited at the idea of be able to use the same drawing for two panels. Now I just look at it and cringe. Although I remember being really proud of how cool the group of pupils looked.

Don't forget, you can use The Ballad of Barbara tag to catch up if you're behind.

The Ballad of Barbara - page 3

Barbara the squid-girl is off to school! Hooray! And it turns out that I tried using perspective once! Wow!

Don't forget, you can use The Ballad of Barbara tag to catch up if you're behind.

Tuesday 17 August 2010

The Ballad of Barbara - page 2

So it's part two of my gran experiment - uploading a a series of pages from a comic I drew!

I'll be using The Ballad of Barbara as the tag on this blog in case you've missed anything... Oh! And let me know what you think. Unless you're a spambot. In which case, leave me alone!

Monday 16 August 2010

The Ballad of Barbara - page 1

So...as discussed, here is the first page of People I Know #3... although I've renamed it "The Ballad of Barbara" since it's online and everything online needs a catchy title. See: two girls one cup, LOLcats etc etc

I made this comic a few years ago and although it looks pretty different to how I do stuff now, it's very much got a similar tone. Don't believe me? Well, just stick about!

IN OTHER NEWS: I had a really lovely Saturday at the WAW+P Drawing Party. I did some drawing, ate some cake and actually talked to people. Then I did some Real Job work in the evening. I forgot how to edit on Final Cut Pro so there was a fair bit of swearing. Sunday was spent cutting out owls, watching a Catherine Cookson movie (my new favourite things to watch!) and daydreaming. It's nice to go into the new week with a smile on my face.

ThunderCats! + the next few weeks

Hello!

It's Friday and this comic is being uploaded just for Lizz Lunney. It doesn't invovle her favourite ThunderCat...but it's the thought that counts.

Right - now here's my first proper announcement. Spooky, eh?

One day, I'd like to tell a story on here that lasts longer than three or six panels. I don't know what that story is yet but I'd like to tell it. But maybe you mysterious people that take the time to swing by here aren't that keen. I tried a mini-version with Super Virgins but that was only two pages.

So anyways, to see what you make of a longer strip being released a page a day, as of next week I'll start uploading an old issue of People I Know. It'll probably be issue three - the first one I started using the computer for. It's about a squid called Barbara that goes to school. And I'll be uploading a new page every day until it's finished. I really like it as a comic - even though it doesn't look like how I draw stuff nowadays.

I'll still upload the odd drawing now and again...and I'll totally still be blogging, it's just a chance to try something new. I really hope you like the comic!

Pacman: Om Nom Nom

Hello!

So...yeah...I had the BEST evening! I met up with an old work pal and we put the world to rights over weird pancakes and then we went for a walk. Walking and talking are two of my favourite things! It almost made up for yesterday's massive boo hoo fest. Seriously - I nearly cried about three times. It was intense.

Also - here is a drawing about Pacman. I suppose it's sort of twins with that space invaders drawing I did.

I'm still thinking about different ways to upload and different formats to draw in. It looks like I might run a test pretty soon so keep your peepers peeled!

Wednesday 11 August 2010

Real Life: Call Me

I'm thinking of trying out some new stuff drawing-wise...maybe fewer strips and more "a-page-a-week" type thing. Either way, here's a real life story about my real life.

I don't think it's fair to draw other people in a Real Life comic unless they agree to it...and obviously I couldn't ask this particular person because I've never heard from them since meeting them. Plus, this has happened so often, it's sort of fitting to use a big green blob - much easier than drawing out however-many-people I would actually have to draw if I was being true to life.

Plus I'm not as cute as the Drawn-Version-Of-Me when I cry. Or in general

IN OTHER NEWS: Goodnight!

Tuesday 10 August 2010

Harry Potter: Justin Bieber?

I find the global obsession with teeny tiny Justin Bieber quite alarming...but also interesting. Why is he so popular? Is he the modern equivalent of a unicorn? Is that why people love him? In some weird way I can understand why tweens might be attracted to the 'wildness' of Ke$ha...but Bieber is just so...wholesome? And young!

ANYWAYS! Here's You-Know-Who with precious partner-in-crime, Wormtail! In my mind, Wormtail is so weak-willed that he's always passionate about the latest crazes. This week it's Justin Bieber, back in 1994 it was probably Pogs.

Do you think Justin Bieber knows what Pogs are? Is he OLDER than Pogs??!!

FUN FACT: The Dark Lord originally killed Wormtail in this drawing...but I figured that was too grim. So instead they are going as Rose and Jack from Titanic. Together they will recreate that bit at the helm of the ship...how romantic!

IN OTHER NEWS: I am bastard tired.

Sunday 8 August 2010

Lady Gaga versus Two Girls One Cup

There are a lot of things on the Internet which spook me out. Like "Two Girls One Cup..." which I've heard enough about to know that it would upset me. And make me sick. Both at the same time!

But! It's OK because Lady Gaga is here to make everything better/much less gross. I hope you like it.

The weekend was mostly spent drawing. So, although I didn't see anyone - I've got all five drawings for the week done in advance! Score! And I had a nice ice lolly.

IN OTHER NEWS: I wore some pretty fancy clothes last week! I even wore a bow tie at one point! I'm going to treat myself to a new jacket at some point this month too! And maybe some grown up trousers. Any suggestions as to where one buys such items? Help me!

AND IN OTHER OTHER NEWS: I've tried actually using a Blogger Template for this blog. Please let me know what you think. And does anybody know how to centre the ruddy logo?! Grrr...

Friday 6 August 2010

Jessica Fletcher: Write a Book!

Oh! Em! Gee! It's only ruddy Jessica B. Fletcher from television's Murder, She Wrote. I did Jessica Fletcher Week on this blog a while ago and it's funny looking back at all those amazing drawings. It's a bit weird to see how much my own drawing-style (if you can call it that) has changed too. I think it's much cuter now!

Anyways. Since Lady Gaga made a comeback this week, it only seems fair that Jessica reappeared too. Plus, this is her most epic outing to date.

In other news - I've booked the entire weekend out for drawing. I'm super behind and I really need to get the new comic sorted. I might also try to sleep more than three hours. Fingers crossed!

Thursday 5 August 2010

Lady Gaga Guessing Game

This is my dream sort of game - one with Lady Gaga in it! Woo! I feel bad because I haven't drawn her for a while...until now. And she'll be back next week with a super special drawing. I hope you like it! I hope you like me!

Speaking of hoping people like stuff - the bearded gentleman was someone I met at Caption. I drew this whilst I was there and I've checked that he doesn't mind...and he doesn't so HOORAY! Plus, he wins bonus points for talking to me about Scott Pilgrim and other exciting things.

If you ever want to be in a drawing then just make sure you're sitting next to me whilst I'm drawing. Or just ask? That's probably less odd?

Wednesday 4 August 2010

Harry Potter: Voldypoops

Hello. I'm super busy this week. Lots of stuff to do...but it should be exciting once I've got on top of things. And once I've stopped crying.

Here is a drawing with He Who Must Not Be Named. He's so spooky...but you just know that he only keeps Bellatrix (boo! hiss!) around for the occassional hug. Although, I do sometimes wonder if they ever got to first base.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Which base do you reckon Voldemort and Bellatrix have gone to?

Tuesday 3 August 2010

Ke$ha Goes Viral

Uh oh! Ke$ha is back! And this time...she's gone viral! OMG!

I'm surprised how many people haven't heard of Ke$ha. What's that about? She's only the wildest girl on the block! I'm serious. No one is wilder than her! Oh - and she brought along her Number One Fan from that one time.

So yeah - here are the Ke$ha links that will explain everything:

Twilight: My Review

Hello!

What a weekend! I went to Caption in Oxford to play some Dino-Saw-Us sticker games. I've never been to Oxford before it I quite like it. I 80% would like to live there... and they have a nice burger place! And I met some lovely people.

Anyways - here's a quick drawing. It's my review of the first Twilight book. You all know my feelings on Twilight by now... but I *really* wanted to like the book. Alas. Maybe I'll review the movie tomorrow? Either way, I should say that I'm behind on my drawing and the next few weeks are going to be pretty busy...so I apologise if I don't upload as much. Boo hoo.

I hope you had a nice weekend. What did you do?
