Review of the Year: Music in 2011

So, I covered some of the comics I enjoyed in 2011...which can only mean that music is next. Normally I would agonise for a long, long time about when to put on here. I mean, you want to seem cool but not like you're trying too hard, right?

Except! 2011 clearly belonged to one person and one person alone...and that person is Ms Rebecca Black:

And it's not just Friday that cements her at the top of the 2011 charts. She has other songs...which aren't as catchy as Friday but are still ace:

My Moment

Person of Interest

Hooray for Rebecca Black!

As for other, non-Rebecca Black songs, here are a bunch of other things I enjoyed listening to this year. You're not allowed to laugh at me!

My pal Martin sent me this Disney...thing. It's amazing and I don't know how to explain it, but it's ace.

Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers

I don't know if this officially came out in 2010 or 2011 but I listened to it a lot so it is making the cut. Hooray!

M83 - Midnight City

An amazing video as well as the theme tune to Made In Chelsea? Double thumbs up!

Yelle - Safari Disco Club / Que veux-tu

I'm late to the party with Yelle but it's good fun. I don't speak French though so when I singalong, I just make noises and hope it sounds right.

Songify - Can't Hug Every Cat

The Gregory Brothers are ace and responsible for some of the catchiest songs ever. Auto-tune The News #12 is still brilliant. You know what, that is going on the list too, I don't care if it came out in 2010:

Game of Thrones theme

I know it doesn't really count as a chart smash...but the theme from Game of Thrones is ace. And it's so catchy! If I had a theme tune, it would sound like this...

Robyn

Robyn was all over the place this year. Or was it last year? I'm not sure. But I remember listening to her a lot in 2011. I mean, you couldn't really ignore her with videos like this (which, is pretty much how I dance all the time...just so you know)

I think that's mostly it? I can always add in more songs? And now it's 2012 and there's a whole host of music to look forward to. My first official tip of catchy songs (besides whatever Rebecca Black releases next) is the theme tune from New Girl, for no other reason than I enjoy it?

Who's that girl? It's Jess!

Wizarding Wednesday #9

Don't worry guys, it's Wizarding Wednesday! Those terrible jokes from Tuesday have been and gone... Although I'm more than a little surprised that the comments were so positive. I'm assuming that you're being kind and not wanting to upset me. If so - thank you very much. Maybe I'll turn Tuesday into Terrible Tuesday or something? Maybe not. Either way, I've got more of those terrible jokes to upload. Just you wait!

But more importantly - look! Today's drawing features a wizard and some nerds. I assume the nerds are teenagers - otherwise, why did I draw them so small? As for autotuning - I was talking to someone about how it's getting to the point where every funny clip I watch online is autotuned. When I rattled off some examples (I even tried to sing some of them) - they looked confused and it turned out they hadn't heard anything the Bed Intruder song or Double Rainbow! What the what?

For future reference, one of my favourites is this:

IN OTHER NEWS: I went to a Christmas party and it was on someone's boat! A boat which was also their house! A house boat! Wowsers! That's almost as exciting as the fact that I actually went to a party...

Swan Snogging

People always say that swans mate for life. Well, I'm not sure I believe that. I mean, if I was a swan, I'd be a mega-swan-slag. There wouldn't be a swan I hadn't smooched!

But look, this isn't about me. This is about Lynn - a poor girl who fell in love with a swan...and had her heart broken. And smashed. And stamped on. Poor Lynn.

IN OTHER NEWS: I had fishcakes for dinner. Yum. But I don't think I made any new friends today.

BUT I DID WATCH THIS!

Hey Baby!

Hello!

I wish I was cool enough to be able to say "Hey Baby," to people and not sound like a massive idiot. But alas - most things I say make me sound stupid - I don't think I'm brave enough to try saying something as cool as "Hey Baby" in public.

Today was an interesting day. Lots of things I've been working on are almost finished! Yeah!

On the downside, my shoes still aren't waterproof and my feet got SOAKED in the rain. I need to buy new shoes...

Don't forget about the Facebook page and a fun game for you to play! Wheeeeee!

IN OTHER NEWS: I bought some fishcakes. Yum! And I've been enjoying this:

Twilight: My Review (again)

Hello! Remember that time I reviewed the Twilight books? Well, here's my review of the Twilight movies! I doubt you're terribly surprised. She really is a pain!

Anyways! How are you? I need to buy some new trousers and I've got lots of drawing to do at the weekend.

Also - there are two exciting links for you to investigate:
I set up a Facebook page! I hope you like it!
And there's a fun game for you to play! Wheeeeee!

Oh dear...this post doesn't seem to be very fun does it? I know what will fix that:

Ke$ha Goes Viral

Uh oh! Ke$ha is back! And this time...she's gone viral! OMG!

I'm surprised how many people haven't heard of Ke$ha. What's that about? She's only the wildest girl on the block! I'm serious. No one is wilder than her! Oh - and she brought along her Number One Fan from that one time.

So yeah - here are the Ke$ha links that will explain everything:

If I Was A Wizard

This was my entire weekend! The drawing and animating wasn't too painful but the sodding exporting and what not was HIDEOUS! I'm going to investigate making it look better since it looks much nicer on my computer...but I wanted to put *something* up otherwise I'd just feel lazy.

Let me know if you like it - I'll probably turn it into a comic too! HOORAY!

Happy 200th Blog Post!

Hahahahahaha. This is my 200th post here - and I totally wasn't prepared. Oh dear. So here's a drawing with two of my favourite things in it - Jessica "Sexpot" Fletcher and Mystery Inc.

I've spent the ENTIRE WEEKEND drawing for some exciting projects. I was up until 4am on Saturday and today was lots of sewing and stuff.

Good news: I have met some nice people! It's like having friends!

Bad news: I'm knackered!

Here are my two favourite telephone-related YouTube clips at the moment. Maybe I can pretend that this is some sort of special event for the 200th post or something... I will write more about them both later:

The Coolest Gang In Town...

Face it. Mystery Inc. are totally the collest kids in Coolsville. I'll post a comic with them solving an important mystery at some point this week...but until then, check this (poor quality YouTube clip) out:

Review of the Year: The Good Natured

So... 2009 is pretty much over and I've decided to write about some of the noteworthy things I've really liked about the last twelve months.

Today, it's The Good Natured - a depressingly young lady who makes music which is sort of electronic pop that got into a fight with a mild-mannered strop...or something.

'Rose,' in particular is on constant rotation on my playlists. Annoyingly, I can't find it on YouTube or Spotify or Myspace  so you'll just have to take my word for it. It's a lot less electronic than her current stuff but no less the worse for it.

You can keep up to date with The Good Natured on Myspace and you can buy her two EPs from all the usual places.

I really need to dust of my old Casiotone and get back into music making...except I won't suck this time!

OH! Here is a YouTube clip of another song which I like. Shame it isn't a proper video or anything but still - good work!

Jessica Fletcher Week: Roll Credits

One of my favourite things about Murder She Wrote is the way each episode ends - with someone saying a little funny and everyong, Jessica included, all laughing until someone presses the FREEZEFRAME button and the credits roll. So, what better way to start saying a fond farewell to Jessica Fletcher Week than with a comic about these moments?

UPDATE: Someone has already made a mini compilation of these end bits on YouTube. I love the Internet!

Jessica Fletcher Week: The List

I was saving this one for tomorrow but I'm sleepy and might as well post it now.

Lots of people think that Jessica Fletcher commits all the murders herself. I wouldn't like to comment on such matters...but I'd hate to be the person to rumble her if that is the case.

Also! Check this out:

Eye Sea Eh (ICA)

Bonjour!

Just made it back from Comiket at the ICA. What a peculiar day!

It got off to a pretty weird start since the ENTIRE train line I normally use was down. There were no trains. None. Zero. Zilch. Still, using my Super Bus Powers I got to the ICA a bit later than planned. Still, I had a quarter of a table and found myself between Aidan Koch and a girl who I thought was called Blossom but was actually called Joceline. It was a little squished and pretty awkward at first but it turned out that they were both lovely. Phew.

I wasn't selling anything new - just the stuff I took to MCM Expo really...but pushed together to fit across a 30cm wide space. Oh dear. Still, I did my best and gave out all my flyers and sold a little. The most exciting thing about the whole afternoon was meeting lots of new people. Some had beards. Some had stories. Pretty much all of them were awesome. Hooray!

Speaking of awesome people, Lizz, Bryony, Phil and Howard were all there too. HOWEVER! There was a SHOCKING DISCOVERY! Neither Lizz, Bryony or Phil had ever heard of one of the greatest pop songs of all time! I am, of course, talking about this:

Nenah Cherry's Buffalo Stance! Soooooooooooooo good.

So yeah. We went for food and I had a really nice time. The little money I made was spent on a taxi home because of the stupid trains and tomorrow is a new day.

In regards to drawing and stuff, I've been making some new characters/rejigging some old ones. Here is one of them:

Are you ready for The Super Virgins? The answer is probably no. Better get ready!

Stay out of trouble

Don't Stop Believin'

This is amazing and wrong and brilliant and terrifying. I couldn't find a video clip that could be embedded so this creepy static-picture version will have to do:

The Guild: Do You Wanna Date My Avatar

I think this is the second or third YouTube link I've posted...but I just can't stop watching/listening to it and it clearly deserves an entry.

Sketch Up: My First Tomato

Hello!

Here is my very first attempt at using Sketch Up!

ALso, I haven't uploaded a YouTube clip in years so that's another reason not to hate today.
